Ten days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Sri Lanka. It’s long enough to slow down, but short enough to keep the itinerary focused on the highlights. Here’s the route our guides recommend most often.
Days 1–2: Colombo & the west coast
Ease in with a day in the capital, then head to the cultural triangle. Take it slow while the jet lag fades.
Days 3–5: The cultural triangle
Climb Sigiriya at dawn, explore the cave temples of Dambulla, and cycle through the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
Days 6–7: Kandy & the hill country
Ride the famously scenic train to Ella, winding past tea estates and waterfalls. Cool climate, big views.
Days 8–10: The south coast
Wind down on the beaches around Mirissa and Galle, with a whale-watching trip if the season is right.
